Privacy policy

Your home, your data.

This policy explains what Vahti collects across our website, the Vahti app and the Vahti Sensor, what we do with it, who we share it with, and the control you have over it. We've written it in plain language, because you should be able to read it without a lawyer.

Who we are

Vahti is a brand of Alertify LLC (“Vahti”, “we”, “us”). We make a plug-in home sensor and the companion Vahti app, and we operate the website at meetvahti.com.

This policy applies to you if you visit our website, create a Vahti account, buy a sensor, use the app, or live in or look after a property where a Vahti Sensor is installed. You can reach us about anything in it at support@meetvahti.com.

What we collect

Account details

When you create an account we collect your name, email address and a password, which we store only as a salted hash and can never read. If you enable SMS alerts we also store a mobile phone number. We assign your account an internal identifier, and store your time zone and whether you prefer Fahrenheit or Celsius so that readings and alerts arrive correctly timed and labeled.

Property, unit and room details

The app lets you organize sensors by building, property or unit, and room. Whatever you enter there, we store — typically a property or unit name (“Nursery”, “Unit 3B”, “Lake cabin”), and, where you provide it, a street address or approximate location for the property.

We store this because the product needs it: it is how alerts tell you which home and which room needs attention, how multiple units stay apart in one account, how local weather context is matched to indoor readings, and how the right time zone is applied. Address details are optional. A sensor works without them; you will simply get less context in your alerts, and you can remove an address at any time.

Sensor readings

Each Vahti Sensor measures the environment of the room it is in and sends readings to your account continuously. These readings are the product — without storing them there is no live view, no history, no baseline and no alerts. They are:

What is measuredWhat is stored
Sound levelLoudness in decibels (dB), sampled continuously. Never the sound itself.
Air qualityFine particulate matter (PM2.5) and volatile organic compounds, in µg/m³.
Smoke and vapeParticle signatures characteristic of smoking or vaping, and the events they trigger.
TemperatureAmbient temperature in °F or °C, to your chosen unit.
HumidityRelative humidity as a percentage, and the mold-risk score derived from it.
Device healthPower source, battery level, Wi-Fi signal strength, online and offline state, tamper detection, firmware version and error logs.

Every reading is timestamped and linked to the sensor, room and property you assigned it to. We also store the events those readings trigger — an alert for noise above your threshold, a smoke detection, a device going offline — along with the alert rules you set, such as thresholds, durations, quiet hours and Home, Away or Quiet mode.

During its first day in a room, a sensor learns what “normal” looks like there. That baseline is calculated from these same readings, and is stored alongside them.

Device identifiers

For each sensor we store a device identifier, its hardware address (the MAC address printed on the unit), its firmware version and its connection state. We need these to pair the right sensor with the right account, to deliver firmware updates, and to tell you when a sensor has gone quiet.

Purchases

When you buy a sensor or subscribe to Vahti+, we store your name, shipping and billing address, email and an order and subscription record. Payment is handled by our payment processor; we never receive or store your full card number.

Messages to us

If you email us or use the form on our website, we store your name, email address and the content of your message, plus our reply, so that we can help you and improve our answers.

App diagnostics

The app reports its version, your device model and operating system, and crash reports, so we can fix faults. Each signed-in device also stores a push notification token so alerts can reach you. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not use advertising identifiers.

Website use

Our servers keep standard access logs — IP address, browser type, pages requested and timestamps — for security, abuse prevention and troubleshooting. We also measure how the site is used with Google Analytics; see Cookies and website analytics.

What we never collect

The Vahti Sensor has no camera and no microphone that captures audio. To be precise about what it does do: it measures and records how loud a room is. Sound is converted to a decibel figure on the device itself, and only that number is stored or sent to us. What is never captured is the sound itself — no speech, no audio, no images, no video. There is no audio recording to play back, hand over or leak, because none is ever made.

The sensor also has no occupancy or presence detection. It does not count people, sense motion, or know whether anyone is in the room. It measures the air and the environment, and nothing else.

We do not buy personal information about you from data brokers, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not use your readings to infer anything about your identity, health or household beyond the alerts you have asked for.

How we use it

We use the information described above to:

  • Running your account, showing live readings and history, learning each room’s baseline, and sending the alerts you asked for.
  • Supporting you — answering questions, diagnosing a sensor that has gone quiet, and handling returns and warranty claims.
  • Taking payment, shipping your order, and managing your Vahti+ subscription if you have one.
  • Keeping accounts and devices secure, and preventing fraud and abuse.
  • Improving accuracy and reliability, using aggregated and de-identified readings that do not identify you or your home.
  • Meeting our legal obligations, such as keeping tax records for purchases.

We send marketing email only if you opt in, and every message carries an unsubscribe link. Service messages about your sensors, alerts, orders and account are not marketing, and continue for as long as you hold an account.

We do not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you by automated means. Alerts are automated, but they notify you; they do not decide anything about you.

Cookies and website analytics

Our website uses a small number of strictly necessary cookies to work at all — keeping your session, remembering the cookie choice you made here, and protecting against abuse. These are set without asking, because the site cannot function without them.

Analytics cookies are off until you turn them on. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people find useful and where they run into trouble. It sets cookies and collects your IP address (truncated for storage), approximate location at city level, referring page, device and browser type, and the pages you view.

We do not request the Google Analytics script at all until you choose Allow analytics in the banner on your first visit. Choose Only necessary and nothing is loaded and no analytics cookie is set. You can change your mind in either direction at any time from Cookie settings in the footer of every page; withdrawing permission stops the tracking and deletes the analytics cookies already on your browser.

We run Analytics with IP anonymization on, and Google Signals and all advertising features switched off, so your visit is not used to build advertising audiences and is not shared with Google for advertising. You can also opt out of Google Analytics on every website you visit with Google's browser add-on. Google's own handling of this data is described in its privacy policy.

The Vahti app carries no advertising or analytics cookies. It reports crashes and basic diagnostics, as described above.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as California and other state privacy laws use those terms. We do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.

We share information only with service providers who process it on our instructions, under contracts that limit what they may do with it:

ProviderWhy
Cloud hosting and database providersStoring your account, property details and sensor readings
CloudflareServing and protecting our website and app traffic
Push, SMS and email delivery providersDelivering alerts and account messages
StripeProcessing payments and subscriptions
Google Analytics 4Measuring how our website is used

When the law requires it. We may disclose information to comply with a valid legal request, to protect someone's safety, or to establish or defend legal claims. Where we are permitted to tell you about such a request, we will.

If Vahti changes hands. If Alertify LLC is acquired or merges, data may transfer as part of that transaction. This policy continues to apply until you are told otherwise, and we will notify you before your data becomes subject to a different one.

Shared homes, landlords and guests

A Vahti account can cover more than one property, and more than one person can have access to a property.

People you invite. If you share a home with another Vahti user — a partner, a co-owner, a property manager — they can see the readings, events, room names and property details for what you have shared. You choose who is invited, and you can remove their access at any time.

If you are a landlord, host or property manager, you decide why and how sensors are used in units other people occupy, and you are responsible for that decision. That includes telling occupants that a Vahti Sensor is installed and what it measures, and meeting any state or local law on monitoring in rented or short-term-let homes. Our terms require it. Vahti is built to make that a straightforward conversation: it measures the environment, never the people in it, it cannot record anyone, and it cannot tell whether anyone is home.

If you live in or are staying in a home with a Vahti Sensor and have questions about it, contact the account holder — the landlord, host or manager — in the first instance, as they control the settings and the data. You can also contact us and we will help you reach them.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and the data attached to it for as long as your account is open. That includes your profile, your properties, units and rooms, your sensor readings and events, and your alert settings. We do not delete your history on a timer, and we do not expire your account for inactivity.

How much of that history the app shows you depends on your plan — 30 days of searchable history on the free app, a full year with Vahti+. That is a feature of the plan, not a deletion schedule.

You decide when it goes. Delete a sensor, a property or your whole account in the app at any time. When you delete your account we remove your personal information and your readings within 30 days, and they cycle out of our encrypted backups within 90 days.

Two things outlive an account deletion, and only because they must. Order and payment records are kept as long as US tax and consumer law requires, typically seven years. Server and security logs are kept for a short period, normally up to 90 days, and are then discarded.

How we protect it

Readings travel from the sensor to our servers, and from our servers to your app, over encrypted connections. Data is encrypted at rest. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. Access inside Vahti is restricted to staff who need it to support you or run the service, is granted on a least-privilege basis, and is logged.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and any authority that state law requires, without unreasonable delay.

Your rights and choices

In the app, at any time, you can:

  • Export your readings, event history and account details in a portable format.
  • Correct your name, email, phone number, and property, unit and room details.
  • Remove an address from any property while keeping the sensor working.
  • Delete a sensor, a property, or your entire account and all of its data, permanently.
  • Turn off SMS, email or marketing messages, and adjust every alert rule.

If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia or another state with a privacy law, you also have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to get a copy of it, to correct it, to delete it, and to appeal if we turn a request down. You also have the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information, of sharing it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and of profiling — we do none of those three, so there is nothing to opt out of and no “Do Not Sell” toggle to find. We will never deny you service, charge you a different price, or give you a lesser product for exercising a right.

To exercise anything you cannot do in the app, email support@meetvahti.com. We will confirm your request within 10 days and answer it within 45 days, and may need to verify that you own the account before we act. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows it.

Children

Vahti accounts are for adults. You must be 18 to create one, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Many sensors sit in nurseries and children's bedrooms. The readings from those rooms are environmental — sound level, temperature, humidity, air quality — and are information about the room, not about the child. There is no camera, no audio recording and no presence detection, so nothing about a child is captured. If you believe a child has given us personal information directly, contact us and we will delete it.

Where we operate

Alertify LLC is a United States company, and we currently sell and support Vahti in the United States. Your information is stored and processed on servers run by our hosting providers, which may be located in the United States and in other countries where those providers operate.

If you use Vahti from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy law may differ from your own.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy when the product or the law changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised, and we keep previous versions available on request. For material changes we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use Vahti after that date means you accept the updated policy.

How to contact us

Questions, requests and concerns about your data are answered by a person, usually the same day.
